Synopsis
He wants just one night...

After growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father, Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott vowed never to marry or have kids. Sent stateside to get his head on straight--and his anger in check--Brady's looking for a distraction. He finds it in his beautiful new neighbor's one-night-only offer for hot sex, but her ability to make him forget is addictive. Suddenly, Brady's not so sure he can stay away.

...what they need is each other.

Orphaned as a child, community center director Joss Daniels swore she'd never put herself in a position to be left behind again, but she can't deny herself one sizzling night with the sexy soldier who makes her laugh and kisses her senseless. When Joss discovers she's pregnant, Brady's rejection leaves her feeling abandoned. Now, they must overcome their fears before they lose the love and security they've found in each other, but can they let go of the past to create a future together?

My Review
When you have a book with two broken people, you know the road to their happily ever after isn’t going to be a smooth one. When Joss meets Brady there’s an instant connection between the two. Brady, currently on leave from the Army Special Forces for anger management is looking for a distraction. One he finds in Joss, his neighbour, who at the moment is feeling pretty hurt after seeing her ex with his pregnant girlfriend. When she lays eyes on our sexy sergeant, she wants to enjoy a no-strings attached, night of passion with him.
“This was a one-night-only deal. Exactly his style. He didn't do sleepovers. He didn't call the next day. He didn't make plans.”
The attraction between the two leads to more than one night together when they find out they are in fact neighbours, even though they try so hard to resist. The story picks up when we find out that Joss is pregnant, she has so much love to give Brady and their baby that when she tells him she envisions them together as a family. The reality is far from this. After receiving some bad news, Brady’s head is all over the place and he dismisses Joss and their baby feeling he is unworthy of a family and love.
“Did you find your freedom Brady?”
Soul-deep certainty made him squeeze her. “I have, now.”
The thing I loved about this book is that their problem wasn’t resolved with the usual ‘I love you’ and instead leads to some really sweet grovelling and making up from Brady to try and win back Joss and his baby.  There was just enough hot scenes between the characters without it overwhelming the story too much and the secondary characters help build the story just right.

This book had me hooked from the start and has become one of my favourites. It may be a short read but in no way feels rushed. It shows us that sometimes, even though having hope is a fearsome risk, it is a risk worth taking.
